Chekhov Peak, rising 1045 meters above sea level, is located near Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. This is one of the highest peaks of the Susunai ridge.
DURING THE PERIOD OF KARAFUTO, CHEKHOV PEAK WAS A SACRED MOUNTAIN.
Back then people built a temple house dedicated to the sun goddess Amateratsu on the top. He's been standing there ever since.
Such a stunning panorama opens from here: in the East - the Sea of Okhotsk and the Susunai Valley with its lakes Izmenchivoe and Tunaycha, in the South - Aniva Bay and Vavayskoye Lake, in the west - the mountains of the Kamyshoviy Ridge.
